The Energy Cost Report
Renewable Costs to Keep Tumbling Despite Setback
The Energy Intelligence Cost Report, published in EI New Energy, provides in-depth global analysis of cost trends among competing forms of power generation, including the falling cost of renewable energy. The data is broken down into five regions covering about three-quarters of the world's power generation and is based on Energy Intelligence's proprietary levelized cost of energy model.
At today’s low natural gas prices, combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) have reclaimed their role as the cheapest technology for new power generation around much of the globe according to Energy Intelligence’s new regional data on the cost of electricity generation, known as the LCOE. This marks a shift from a year ago, when solar photovoltaic (PV) and onshore wind had inched ahead, for the first time, to become the cheapest generating source.
